You get your intuition back.jpg

If you’re a regular reader of my blog or have taken a course with me, you know by now that I’m all about listening to your heart. It’s the very core of Writing From the Heart.

When we listen to our hearts, we are accessing our intuition. The word intuition comes from the Latin intuir, which appropriately means knowledge from within.

Our heart is a wondrous organ that has now been proven to be the King (or Queen) of the body, developing before the brain develops in utero, and sending more information to the brain to direct its functions than the brain sends to the heart. I believe the heart is your higher self, your soul.

I did a little research into The HeartMath Institute, which created a short  video that really caught my eye. It’s about the intuitive, energetic heart. The crux of the video that relates to Writing From the Heart is that it encourages us to listen to our inner voice of knowing (our soul), which what connects us to a global grid that can lead to a sustainable future.

From the video The Heart's Intuitive Intelligence: A path to personal, social and global coherence:

“Our intuitive, energetic heart is what people associate with their “inner voice” throughout history. From our perspective, the energetic heart transmits a steady stream of intuitive information to the mind and brain, which in most cases we only use a small percentage of, because our ego choices override the suggestion of our intuition.

Access to our heart’s intuition varies among people, yet we all have it. As we learn to slow down our mind and attune to our deeper heart feelings, our natural intuitive connection can occur.

Intuition is like intuitive gold — our intuitive insights often unfold more understanding of ourselves, others, and life than years of accumulated knowledge. In this state of coherence (awareness), more and more people are reporting access to their intuitive guidance, realizing it’s within them. With a little practice, it’s easier to access than they thought.”

The spiritual heart is a little like a smart phone — invisibly connecting us to a large network of information. It is through an unseen energy the heart emits that humans are profoundly connected to all things. The energy of the heart literally links us to each other. Every person's heart contributes to a collective field environment. This short video explains the importance of this connection and how we each add to this collective energy field. The energetic field of the heart even connects us with the earth itself.

“Whether personal relationships, social connections, or even the global community — we are all connected through a field of electromagnetic energy. Increasing individual awareness of what we bring to this field environment could be the key to creating a sustainable future, a future that we can be proud to have helped create.”

Our heart (our soul) has spoken to us our entire lives and will continue to do so until our physical bodies die. When we are conscious of what our heart is trying to tell us, and follow its advice, we receive huge positive benefits. By taking note every time our intuition was right about something, it allows us to discover a pattern that all messages from within have in common —  the unique way OUR heart makes itself felt.

Intuition’s most important role is to alert us to the path, people, and circumstances that will fulfill our lives. Using our intuition is just like working a muscle. It gets stronger the more we use it.

Best-selling author of books such as Sacred Contracts, Caroline Myss, says,

“We often hesitate to follow our intuition out of fear. Usually, we are afraid of the changes in our own life that our actions will bring. Intuitive guidance, however, is all about change. It is energetic data ripe with the potential to influence the rest of the world. To fear change but to crave intuitive clarity is like fearing the cold, dark night while pouring water on the fire that lights your cave. An insight the size of a mustard seed is powerful enough to bring down a mountain-sized illusion that may be holding our lives together. Truth strikes without mercy. We fear our intuitions because we fear the transformational power within our revelations.”

Sadly, intuition can also be silenced. When certain feelings are forced on us or denied to us during our childhood mental, physical, and emotional growth, our intuition can be faulty. When we are consistently told our intuition is not to be trusted, because logic is always right, that we must fit in and not voice our truth, or that intuition’s voice is the work of Satan, we shut down our intuition’s voice. This can create huge self-doubt, irrational fear, or a clouded thought process, making it difficult to filter traumatic past experiences from actual intuition. When we feel too much and don’t know what to do with it, it can also make it difficult for us to with clarity because we doubt everything.

If you are a woman, you typically have exceptional skills in reading other humans. Our female ancestors needed to evaluate a situation quickly in order to tune into their infant and their environment for protection and survival. Their brains were trained for heightened awareness because they were protecting a being outside of their own body. Female brains, therefore, evolved to have a greater ability to organize lots of outside information at one time, giving us the ability to read people.

Our intuition often knows what’s best for us even when our thinking minds do not understand yet what’s going on.

According to The Creativity Post, there are 10 things that intuitive people do differently. How many of them describe you?

  1. They listen to their inner voice.
  2. They take time for solitude.
  3. They create.
  4. They practice mindfulness.
  5. They observe everything.
  6. They listen to their bodies.
  7. They connect deeply with others.
  8. They pay attention to their dreams.
  9. They enjoy plenty of down time.
  10. They mindfully let go of negative emotions.

  1. Create the intention to begin noticing your intuition. When your inner critic tries to take over, recognize what’s happening, let it pass by, then keep listening for the truth that is in your heart.
  2. Try keeping a journal or a dream journal to note the synchronicities and signs of “coincidences” that occur in your life. Start following them and you’ll be amazed at where they lead you.
  3. Connect to your heart in your Writing From the Heart practice regularly by stilling your mind. Use this guided meditation to allow your intuitive voice to come out naturally.
