Is your soul trying to get your attention? It is best to listen and act now, rather than wait for the gentle knock to become something far stronger…
What’s your story?
It’s human nature to fight against using our natural gifts. It’s the stuff of great storytelling. From the young shepherd Santiago in The Alchemist to the feminine search for understanding in Eat, Pray, Love and even Dorothy’s return to home in The Wizard of Oz — our lives are a quest.
Many success stories begin by the heroine ignoring the call of her natural abilities. There are many possible reasons for this resistance — from fear that the calling will be too difficult, to not believing that we are worthy of doing the very work you are being asked to do.
We may also feel too small, too distracted by other people's ideas about what we should do, or too uninformed about what the call is about. Whatever the reason, the resistance to becoming who we are meant to be in this life can have very concrete consequences, and many of us have been called out of hiding by an illness or a twist of fate that rocked our world and dismantled our resistance. In other words, the Universe/God knocks, and if we don't answer it knocks louder, and louder, until it has no choice but to force you to pay attention. We ALL have a calling and a mission in our life.
How loudly is your soul calling out to you?
If you’re meant to be a psychic or a medium, and you aren't using that gift, you may get headaches. If you’re meant to be a healer and are trying to be a lawyer, you may have trouble getting or keeping a job.
Of course, it doesn't mean that you can't still be a lawyer. Perhaps you’re like me — finally connecting my love of storytelling with my soul’s calling to do healing work by becoming a storyhealer. Is integrating your skills what’s calling you?
Your heart’s (soul’s) desire doesn’t have to be a calling to be Oprah or Malala. You can do your small part in healing our collective consciousness right from your sphere of influence. You never know how far the ripples may spread.
Listen to your heart
You may simply feel an underlying anxiety that you are not on the right path, doing the right thing. Pay attention to this feeling, and ask for guidance from the universe/God, your guardian angels, and guides. Keep your heart open to all types of communications — from subtle internal yearnings to powerful dreams and from chance encounters to roadblocks you stumble upon on your own heroine’s journey.
As you begin to risk opening the door to your natural gifts, your life will shift in powerful ways. Remember, teeny-tiny baby steps in the right direction — even if it means taking a class that speaks to you or setting aside one night a week to paint or write — is enough for now.
Will you be the heroine of your life — or the victim?
Don’t wait until the knock becomes so loud and insistent that it turns to illness or accident.
The first step on the journey to answering your life’s calling is to listen to your heart’s desire and open the door when you hear it knocking. As you do, the symptoms and anxieties that have haunted you will fade into the background, replaced by opportunities — big and small — to open the door to what you are truly here to do.
